Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior official commented the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
