Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
